Strategic projects

As well as supporting community initiatives, Arts Northern Rivers has initiated a series of regional projects including the Visual Arts Network, Regional Museums Development Project and Indigenous Arts Development Project.

 

ConVerge : Northern Rivers Touring Ceramics Exhibition

Indigenous Arts Development Project and Business Centre

In 2006, local Indigenous artists formed the Regional Indigenous Artists Steering Committee, to support Indigenous visual artists in the region. With the assistance of Arts Northern Rivers, they proposed a long term Indigenous Arts Development Project, to support the development and sustainability of the Indigenous visual arts industry in the region, a culturally rich area with large numbers of Indigenous artists working in all fields of the visual arts and craft. Northern Rivers Arts and Creative Industries Strategy

In 2008, Arts Northern Rivers engaged Brisbane based consultancy Positive Solutions to develop an Arts and Creative Industries Strategy for the region. The strategy is a simple and practical plan to market, manage and finance the arts and creative industries sectors to a national audience. Read more...

 

Northern Rivers Regional Museum Development Project

The Northern Rivers region is home to 21 volunteer run museums with diverse collections ranging from community social history museums to specialist museums, as well as several cultural organisations with unique heritage collections, such as the Minjungbal Aboriginal Cultural Centre. In early 2006 representatives from the volunteer museums approached Arts Northern Rivers, requesting assistance to help them protect, manage and improve access to the important museum collections in the region.  In response, Arts Northern Rivers sought funding for the implementation of a Regional Museums Development Project. Visual Arts Network

Arts Northern Rivers has responded to demand from artists to develop the regional Visual Arts Network (VAN) strategy, to provide professional development, marketing support and export assistance for local artists. It includes a range of workshops, marketing events and initiatives, a curated virtual gallery and a high profile Visual Arts Curatorial and Advisory Panel. Visit the VAN web site...

 

Youth Arts Roadshow

Photo of Jason spinningIn July 2005, Arts Northern Rivers’ Youth Arts Roadshow hit the road with a six-month program of creative workshops for young people aged between 12 and 24, living in some of the Northern Rivers region’s smaller and more isolated communities.  A total of 45 workshops were organised, all led by professional artists and over 600 young people in 12 communities participated in the program.
