Artist Respite 2025

Recently, three Northern Rivers-based artists, Kate Stroud, Hunter Wilson and Holly Ahern participated in the Artist Respite Program – a one week residency on Yaegl and Gumbaynggirr country, Clarence Valley, supported by Grafton Regional Gallery and Arts Northern Rivers.

About Kate:

Kate Stroud is a vision hunter, visual communicator, sign writer and large-scale muralist. Her joyful, rebellious and unmistakably bold works are a reflection of the Northern Rivers’ creative pulse. From laneways to local businesses, Kate’s hand-painted murals and signage bring colour and character to public spaces – and her fierce advocacy for community-led development is at the heart of everything she creates.

About Hunter:

Hunter Wilson is an emerging multidisciplinary artist whose practice spans sculpture, print, photography, and projection. Identifying as a minimal metamodernist conceptual artist, his work examines the profound societal shifts brought about by the advent of the internet, social media, and mobile technology.

About Holly:

Holly Ahern is an early-career artist, researcher and arts worker living on Bundjalung Country. Her practice focuses on collaboration, installation, and practice-based research. Through the lens of regional witnessing, her work invites audiences to engage with the Northern Rivers in a slow, deliberate manner, offering an authentic connection to material, time and place.

Arts Northern Rivers and Grafton Regional Gallery have developed this program to support artists residing in the Northern Rivers region affected by natural disasters.
